Get More Muscular Legs
To get more muscular legs, one must do more than simply increase the amount of exercise or physical activity.
The first consideration is that of resistance exercise. Working with equipment or weights that offer resistance will help the body increase in mass, regardless of the area. Working on machines that require lifting with the shins helps the muscles in the front of the legs, such as the quadriceps. It may also help strengthen the areas just below the knees.
To increase the size of hamstrings and calves, leg curls or motions that bend the legs back toward the lower spine work best. Other machines that can help include rowing machines and stair steppers. The constant lifting motion will give all areas an overall well toned look, which can make thighs and calves look more defined. Simply walking outdoors or on a treadmill are not likely to do much, other than keep the areas tight and trim. To get more muscular legs, motions that rely on or use those areas most are the best option.
For those who like a variety of activities, adding some bicycling and swimming to weekly routines can also make a difference. Swimming helps with toning, though most areas will feel less fatigued than from other types of exercise. Bicycling requires constant motion and the use of many different areas. Riding across varied terrain, such as up hills, will also help increase the strength needed to keep pedaling. It can be a great way to get outdoors and provides an escape from the typical routine in the gym.
Many sports can help a person achieve more bulk in thighs and calves. Those who participate in sports such as soccer, even on a recreational basis, will improve toning and mass in the desired areas. Any sport that requires short sprints requires more power, which comes from bulkier, shorter muscles. Tennis, baseball, racquetball and football may also be some activities that can help increase mass.
Those who want to get more muscular legs should make sure they get enough protein in their diets, as those are the substances that help build mass. There is no need to take steroids or other substances that come in liquids or powders. Most people can get adequate protein from their diets. There are plenty of books and guides that can help those who want increased bulk. Regardless of the protein source, it is still a good idea to eat plenty of other foods to maintain the ability to build mass and to keep energy levels constant.
