WP: We also did a great Before and After interview with Cain. Be sure to read it. Hello, Cain. Let’s begin with you telling us a little about yourself.

CC: My name is Cain Cardiel from Midland, Texas. I am a ninth grade Algebra 1 teacher at a freshman school. I am also a natural bodybuilder and have competed once and won first place at the 2007 NPC Natural Colorado show in Denver, Colorado in the novice middleweight class. I look forward to competing again in the near future and to continue being involved in the fitness industry.

WP: A teacher?! I sure wished we had teachers that looked like you when I was in school! Geez! I would have loved to go to school then! Ha-ha! What was it that made you know without a doubt that you wanted to go into bodybuilding?

CC: Ever since lifting weights for football and power lifting I knew bodybuilding was for me; once I was finished competing in sports.

I also grew up watching Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone movies and really admired their physiques. I knew that I, too, wanted to have a muscular physique similar to them growing up.

WP: Stallone is my favorite! How long have you been lifting?

CC: I started lifting weights heavy for football offseason and power lifting in the 9th grade. I continued lifting in college, but became more interested in bodybuilding when I was about twenty two years old.

I got into bodybuilding when after college football I realized I had gained too much body fat. I was big and strong but did not like looking into the mirror at my stomach. I entered the Body For Life Challenge and burned the fat off while keeping the muscle and loved the energy I had and my new physique.

WP: You really did change your physique! That took a lot of dedication. What are your best lifts?

CC: It’s been a long time since I have actually maxed out, but I would say my best lifts are 365 pounds on the bench press, 500 pounds squats, and 520 pounds deadlift.

WP: Wow! That's pretty good! Since you have changed your entire physique, do you have any advice to people that wish to build more mass and more cut?

CC:   Be consistent and patient! Building muscle takes time, especially if you train natural and have been lifting for years. To get cut, you really need to focus on your diet and performing some cardiovascular exercise. The more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism will be so, it is important to continue lifting heavy for getting more cut.

WP: Great advice, Cain! You must eat pretty clean. What do you eat in a normal day?

CC: On a normal day I usually have a scoop of Whey Protein and oatmeal for breakfast, a Lean Body MRP a few hours later, for lunch I usually have tuna with an apple and low fat string cheese, another Lean Body MRP a few hours later, for dinner usually chicken with brown rice and green veggies, and the last meal may be a slow digesting protein or cottage cheese. This is a typical day but does vary from time to time.

WP: Do you allow yourself a cheat day?

CC: Yes, I do. It's usually on a Sunday. I’ll have a cheat day and eat whatever I am craving. It may be just one cheat meal that day or it could be more depending on how I feel. Now if I am preparing for a show or a photo shoot, I will not have a cheat day until afterwards.

WP: What supplements do you take?

CC: For protein, I take Lean Body Shakes by Labrada and also like Syntha-Six by BSN. I have been taking Cellucor products for muscle gain and fat loss and have been enjoying the results. From Cellucor, I like M5 Extreme, NO Zero Extreme, D4 Thermal Shock, P6 and R3.

WP: I've heard a lot about Cellucor products. I've never used them but I've heard they are good. Maybe it's time to start. Could you tell me a story of how you have gotten where you are today?

CC: I have always enjoyed working out and staying in shape. There is nothing that makes you feel more alive than high intensity exercise! I enjoy meeting people who share the same interests as I do and will continue living a fitness lifestyle and helping others achieve their goals.

WP: Do you have anyone you can thank for helping you get where you are?

CC: I thank my dad who first got me interested in weight lifting. He used to work out a lot at the house and had free weights in one of the rooms. I always enjoyed watching him work out and had fun being on top of his back as he did pushups.

WP: A lot of parents don't understand the influence they have on their kids. Even when they think their kids are not watching, they are. Being an example in your kids life makes such a difference. Where do you want to be in 5 years?

CC: In five years from now, I would love to be more involved helping others achieve their goals with diet and exercise and to be happy.

WP: You look great! How do you keep the physique you have? What is the hardest thing for you to face when it comes to keeping your physique?

CC: Thank you, Tammy. I keep my physique by being consistent with exercise and diet. As I get older, I have to pay much more attention to my diet, if I want to stay lean. The hardest thing for me to face is temptation with my diet. It can be very difficult at times when I am eating out with friends during the weekends to stay on a clean diet.

WP:  Tell me about your future projects. Do you have any in sight?

CC: As of right now I do not have any in sight but am definitely interested in coming up with some projects in the near future.

WP: What gets you up in the morning?

CC: I get up each day knowing today is a new day and that I plan to make the most of it! I love to start the day early in the morning performing cardio, as I feel it gives me energy for the rest of the day and gets my metabolism going.

WP:  There's nothing like getting up early to work out. It does just make the entire day so much better. How do you approach a challenge?

CC: I love a challenge and I always intend to finish what I started. I give it one hundred percent and make sure that I review my goals in accomplishing a challenge. For any big challenge, you have to set goals for yourself and make sure that you follow through with what it takes to accomplish those goals.

WP:  That’s a very interesting approach! With all you have going on in your life, how do you create balance?

CC: Balance is very important in life. I create balance by being with family and friends. I go to church on Sundays and enjoy myself usually one day out of the week. On that one day out of the week, which is usually Sunday, I will not worry too much about diet and eat whatever I want. This helps me to keep my sanity and helps me appreciate how eating healthy makes you feel better.

WP: What one piece of advice you can share on how to gain the most muscle the fastest?

CC: Be consistent with your training, eating, and rest. Make sure you train intense each workout sticking with the basic compound movements such as squats, the bench press, and deadlifts. You also must be consistent in eating enough calories and protein each day and spreading your meals out evenly five to seven meals a day. I prefer to sleep eight hours a day and always try to be consistent with my sleep schedule seven days out of the week.

WP: Tons of your fans ask me if you are single, married, or dating. Here is your chance to tell your fans for me.

CC: I am single and just enjoying life right now. I am currently not dating anyone, but I do have friends that I enjoy spending time with.

WP: Okay ladies, there you go! He's single! Who had the most impact on you growing up?

CC: I would say my parents were the biggest impact on me growing up. My mom always made sure I was doing the right thing and staying out of trouble. My dad got me involved in lots of sports and helped me appreciate discipline and hard work.

WP: Awwww, that is so sweet! What is your current workout regimen?

CC: I am training two days on and one day off with weights. My current split is chest and biceps day one, legs day two, shoulders and triceps day three, and back and calves day four. I prefer to do cardio in the morning and weights in the afternoon. I am doing about four to five sessions of cardio each week for about thirty five minutes.

WP: You mentioned earlier that you were into sports. Can you tell me about that?

CC: Yes. I played football, basketball, baseball, track, and powerlifting growing up as a kid. I also played one year of college football at Eastern New Mexico University as an outside linebacker.

WP: Anything you would like to see change in the bodybuilding world?

CC: I would like to see natural bodybuilding become more popular. I am glad that it has gotten better and that there are now magazines out there for natural bodybuilding. I see bodybuilding as a lifestyle and so it’s important for me to take care of myself both inside and outside.

WP: Natural Bodybuilding is becoming more popular finally. I think the scare of athletes getting bused for steriods is finally soaking into people. Any shoutouts?

CC: I want to give a shout out to my family and to my good friend and natural bodybuilder Adrain Childers who is also known as BIGKONCRETE on bodyspace. I am looking forward to watching him compete at Musclemania Universe in Miami, Florida and hopefully winning his pro card!

WP: What is the funniest story that has happened to you while working out?

CC: Geez I wish I had something real funny to say but I guess I can’t think of any funny workout stories. I have fallen down before performing squats, but that did not feel too funny!

WP: I don't mean to laugh but, I bet it was funny to the ones watching. I hope you didn't get hurt. What is the proudest moment of your life?

CC: I entered the Body For Life Challenge in 2006 and found out I won a trip to Hawaii from Porter Freeman through fitrx.com! I ordered my supplements through them and they determined me as their Body For Life Challenge winner of those who ordered through fitrx.com. I was also a top ten finalist in the actual 2006 Body For Life Challenge. It was such an awesome feeling knowing that I won and knowing I was going to go to Hawaii for the first time in my life!

WP: Wow! That must have been an honor. Congrats! What are your interests outside of bodybuilding?

CC: I enjoy reading when I have time and spending time with my family and friends. I love outdoor activities such as going out to the lake or skiing during the winter, but I am horrible at skiing!

WP: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

CC: I am a little shy so, it would be nice to be able to loosen up most of the time.

WP: Ha! Hang around Team World Physique and we can get you out of that, quickly! I know you are very busy saving the world so, I will end this interview. It's time to put your cape back on and get back to work. It has been a real pleasure interviewing and getting to know you better.

CC: I want to thank you for giving me this opportunity to be interviewed and that I will continue to live a fitness lifestyle.

WP: It is all of my pleasure, Cain! All of my pleasure!
